✦ Synopsis

Abstract

Hexamethylethane has been decomposed in a flow system in the temperature range of 700–900 K. The mechanism involves carbon–carbon bond cleavage at the most highly substituted position and rapid formation of isobutene from the t‐butyl radical. The rate expression is
and is completely consistent with deductions from radical buffer, shock‐tube, and direct recombination studies. Of special importance is experimental evidence for large decreases of the A factor with increasing temperature and a high heat of formation for the t‐butyl radical, Δ__H__~f~(__t__C~4~H~9~·)~300~ = 52.7 ± 6 kJ.

## Abstract The kinetics of the pyrolysis of pyridine was studied in the temperature range of 875–1050°C, at 1 atm total pressure, in a Vycor stirred‐flow reactor. Initial concentrations ranged from 0.25 to 2 mol % in helium and reaction times from 0.25 to 4 sec. It was found at the lower temperatu

Catalytic decomposition of polyethylene (PE) was carried out with a flow reactor (370 mm x 27 mm) and a batch reactor, and the results were compared to clarify the polymer decomposition process during gasification. The decomposition of PE was not found to occur directly from polymer and oligomer cha

The thermal decomposition of azoethane (AE) was studied by detailed product analysis in the temperature and pressure intervals 508-598 K and 2.7-13.3 kPa. Besides the hydrocarbon products, three characteristic and quantitatively important nitrogen-containing compounds were also determined: ethyl-2-b
