There are numerous instances where the heat transfer from a fin-and-tube heat exchanger to air takes place primarily via natural convection. The lack of data showing the effect of fin spacing, fin length, and Rayleigh number on the thermal performance of the exchanger prompted this experimentation.

The present work submits an experimental work on the heat transfer and friction loss characteristic, employing a tube "nned heating surface kept at a constant temperature in a rectangular channel. The tube "ns attached on the surface (o.d."29 mm) were arranged as either in-line or staggered. The par
