โœฆ Synopsis

The steady-state burning of a single liquid monopropellant droplet in an infinite inert atmosphere is considered in detail, including allowances for thermal conduction, diffusion and chemical kinetic effects. Simplified forms of the governing equations are developed, and theoretical predictions compared with experimental results.

A theory for the thermal ignition of a fuel droplet in a hot oxidizing atmosphere is formulated using an existing gas-phase ignition criterion and an analysis for the transient droplet heating process. Limits on the ignitability of a system, either spontaneous or delayed, are identified. A kineticaU
