โœฆ Synopsis

We generalize the Carmeli-Nitzan unified theory for the non-Markovian escape rate from a metastable well by allowing for different memory friction kernels in the well and the barrier regions. These rates, which contain previously known results as special cases, are plotted for various values of the relevant parameters.

An analytic theory is presented for the thermally activated rate constant in systems which exhibit spatially dependent and timecorrelated friction along the reaction coordinate motion. The theory is valid over the entire range of damping strengths, including in the region of the Rramers turnover. It
