β¦ Synopsis
Quantum close-coupling techniques employing pseudo-potential derived coupling matric elements between reactant and product states have been used to calculate the cross sections for the reactions: Na + C1 Na + + C1-and K + Ct ~ K + + CI--. The calculations were performed from threshold collision energies to 5.0 eV, allowing the reaction rates to be determined for temperatures T < 5000Β°K. Analytical forms for the reaction rates are given. Representative reaction rates at 2000 Β° K for the ionization reactions are k(Na + C1) = 4.3 Γ 10 -14 cm3/s and k(K + C1) = 1.0 Γ 10 -13 cm3/s, while for the ion-ion recombination reactions the rates are found to be k(Na + + C1-) = 3.7 Γ 10 -gcm3/sandk(K ++C1-)=8.5 Γ 10 -11 cm3/s. Itis believed that the calculated rates are accurate to within a factor of two or three.
