Abstract

The waveguide‐type directional couplers constructed into double‐layer thin dielectric substrates have been investigated in this article. Based on coupling theory, the theoretical formulas of coupling factor and isolation for directional couplers with two different coupling structures have been derived. Good agreement between calculation and numerical simulations can be observed well, demonstrating the validity and accuracy of our formulas. These theoretical formulas are expected to find possible applications in the design of integrated direction couplers in LTCC or multilayer PCB technologies. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
