Abstract

Capacity‐controlled digital microwave radio systems that can improve the traffic throughput by adapting the transmission capacity according to the level of traffic are described. Calculated throughput values for the 2^2n^‐QAM and Mphase‐PSK modulation technique in the presence of Rayleighan fading are compared with the Shannon limit. The results suggest that throughput improvement by a factor of 1.5 to 3 can be achieved.
