โฆ Synopsis
Comparative methodologies, in tourism research, are under-developed and their utilisation in a formal sense does not re#ect the level of informal comparative analysis that is at the heart of much analysis that takes place in tourism, both in an academic and practitioner sense. This paper considers some of the purposes of comparative research in tourism and notes some of the inherent problems which comparison faces. One comparative methodology, that of lesson-drawing is considered in detail and its application illustrated in the context of a multi-island comparative research project in the North Atlantic. 1999 Elsevier Science Ltd.
