β¦ Synopsis
Students of John Dewey's writings are fond of reminding their colleagues that Dewey was a prolific writer, pointing to his seventy years of publishing and to the many pages filled by his bibliography. In view of the number of separate items Dewey published throughout that long period, the record has been amazingly well kept and available-above all in M.H. Thomas' John Dewey: A Centennial Bibliography (CNcago: University of Chicago Press, 1962). Now, sixteen years .after the philosopher-.educator's death and six years after the publication of the Centennial Bibliography, some additions can be made to the record.
In an effort to help the Dewey researcher who tries to make use of all relevant materials, the Dewey Project at Southern Illinois University maintains a continuing quest for previously unknown or previously unpublished writings of John Dewey. For philosophers and philosophers of education who might not be aware of the Dewey Project or the bibliographical research conducted there, a list of recent finds has been compiled and arranged for publication in Studies according to the following scheme: (I) general items; (II) class lecture notes, published and unpublished; (III) Chinese and Japanese items, not presently available in English. Sections (II) and ('III) are included chiefly in the interest of letting Dewey scholars know that these materials exist and to call attention to the fact that information about the status of editing and/or translating them is given regularly in The Dewey Newsletter. The Dewey Newsletter is available without charge from jo Ann Boydston, Project Director,
