โฆ Synopsis
Continue the historical fiction adventure youโll get lost inโฆ
In the continuation, Clarence finishes his journey around the world as the mascot of the Spalding Tourists. Beginning in Australia, he and the teams travel to Ceylon, Egypt, Italy, France, the British Isles, and finally return home to America. Clarenceโs adventures continue before the Great Sphinx, in the shadow of Mount Vesuvius, and in front of British royalty. When the teams return to the States, the press hails Spalding and the ballplayers as conquering heroes, bathing them in patriotism and lionizing their achievement.
But what of Clarence? What will happen when he journeys alone through the streets of Cairo and Colombo, or enters the Roman Catacombs? There is also the little matter of getting involved in a secret anarchist plot to, well, why give away the secret?
Even if he survives his adventures to make it home to Chicago, what next for our young mascot? Will the constant racism of his traveling companions damage the young man beyond repair, or can he rise above the abuse and humiliation?
What about his future? Will Clarence overcome his condition as a penniless orphan or remain stuck a homeless boy, ground underfoot by Americaโs rush toward the 20th century?
About the Author
A former college history professor, Rob Bauer now brings his considerable knowledge of the past into his historical novels. His books strike a balance of creative storytelling and meticulous historical accuracy. One of his books, The Buffalo Soldier , even contains some of his own original research about 1890's Montana. He writes a history blog on his website, RobBauerBooks.com, where he reviews historical fiction books and blogs about the historical influence of things as diverse as Martin Luther King, Jr., leaded gasoline, fascism, and mosquitoes.
In addition to his historical novels, Rob is also a huge baseball fan and has written four nonfiction books on baseball history. In 2019 he gave a presentation at the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
When not writing, Rob lives at the beach and tries to maintain the fiction that he's a runner. To that end, he swears he'll finish a marathon someday.
