✦ Synopsis
A single-parameter model for flat-band heterojunctions is discussed. It is 2DEG-analog of the well studied jellium model of metal surfaces. We use effective potential with an image tail, which arises due to the screening by the free carriers in the 2DEG. The work function ¢2DEa of the 2DEG, is calculated (for GaAs ¢b2DEo 1.5--2 meV).

The effect of dynamical exchange interactions on the dielectric function of a two-dimensional electron gas is studied using a variational approach. Exchange effects are introduced via the local-field correction. The variationally obtained local-field factor is compared to the earlier perturbative re
We have used a heat pulse technique to study the 2-dimensional electron gas formed in a GaAs heterostructure. Investigating the scattering as a function of magnetic field yields direct information about the density of states and relative strengths of the coupling mechanisms.
