The &man spectra of tMns-dichloroethylene, trichloroethylene, tetrachloroethylene and tetrabromoethylene

were measured with several excitation ws.velen,tis ranging from 6328 to 337.1 nm. A marked increase of the relative intensity of the C-C stretching mode was observed for all the halogenoethylenes, and discussed with relation to the lower lying excited electronic state.
