The human race was now divided into two species. One had created the
other. For normal humans, experimenting in forced evolution, had
produced the ler, a kind of supermen race - but pacifistic and
contemplative. The ler fled from the turbulent worlds of homo sapiens,
and had established their own quiet colonies on other planets. This made
it all the more inexplicable when reports were received of fierce
