✦ Synopsis

Absorption spectra of a monomolecular layer of a surface-active dye at the water-urban tetrachloride interface have been measured by the method of multi-reflection, with pdarized and unpolarized right. This is the fast visible spectral measurement for a monolayer at a Iiquid-liquid interface. The absorption spectrum is more simikr to the crystal spectrum than the sohition spect_rum. Considerable dicbroic behavior was observed with respect to the polarization of the light, from which the orientation of the dye is discussed.

Spectroscopic and microscopic studies have shown that Ni and Co sorption by clay minerals may proceed via formation of surface precipitates. Several studies employing X-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS) spectroscopy suggested the formation of turbostratic, alpha-type metal hydroxides, of layered
