β¦ Synopsis
Compounds containing the carbonyl group have been the subject of many investigations and a considerable amount of data has been accumulated concerning the effects of various substituents on the carbonyl frequency. However, the vibrational spectrum of cyanofonnyl fluoride, one of the simplest examples of this class of compound, has not been analysed. A preparation of N=C-COF was first reported by TULLOCK and COFFMAN [l] who reacted together COF2 and HCN. Alternative synthetic routes have appeared subsequently [2,3]. The paper by VERBEEK and authors are also grateful to undergraduate students, Tom Jobson and Robin Clewley, for experimental assistance.
