The spectra of the title compounds have been recorded and interpreted. On this basis, the structures of the anhydrous compounds Be(OOCH)\*, Be(OOCMe),, Zn(OOCMe), are predicted to have tetrahedral coordination with the carboxylate ions acting as bidentate ligands.
