sitions, and there will still be 2.5 residency positions for each US medical student applicant.
Many of us are convinced that the average academic level of our residents is falling. This may have resulted from the concerns of our medical students over the last 10 years that career opportunities in neurology after graduation are disappearing. Neurology had previously been able to attract the best and the brightest medical students, but unfortunately poor residents have a negative effect upon medical student recruitment. We must find a way to break this vicious cycle.
The report of the Long-Range Planning Committee lays out the steps that should be taken to maintain the highest academic level of neurology trainees in the coming years. Unless we find some way to divorce patient-care needs from educational considerations, it seems unlikely that the goals of the Committee can be achieved.

During development and in the adult, erbB2, erbB3, and erbB4 are expressed in many tissues and as heterodimers (B2/B3, B2/B4) serve as receptors for neuregulins. The general importance of neuregulin receptors for development is underlined by the observed embryonic (erbB2, erbB4) or perinatal (erbB3)
