✦ Synopsis

The theoretical foundation of Stone's tensor surface harmonic theory of cluster bonding is investigated. A wave equation in matrix form is derived which provides a proper description of the vector surface harmonics. This equation may be associated with a vector particle on a sphere. The generators of the corresponding Lie group are determined using the method of prolongations.
