Essence is a paralegal trying to make her way in New York City after failing to make it as a ballerina. She is sent upstate to bring papers to reclusive billionaire Alec Amaner. Seeing Essence awakens Alec's vampire and he gives in to the need to kill her. And yet when he tastes her blood, he realizes she is his lost love, come back to life. Everything changes for Alec.
