โฆ Synopsis
EXAMINATION OF SPUTUM AND OTHER MATERIAL such as bronchial washings, bronchial brushings, and pleural fluid for malignant cells has become an essential test in the diagnosis of malignancies in the lungs. This report will review the development of this method of diagnosis and summarize the clinical aspects of such cytologic studies of pulmonary cancer. The laboratory aspects of such studies have been reviewed in a previous section of this monograph.
Many comprehensive reviews of the subject have been published in the past 25 years, some of which have numerous illustrations of the normal and abnormal cells. Others have extensive bibliographies. '-~
