We have explored the potential for cloning novel neu-INTRODUCTION rotrophic factor cDNAs via assay of neurotrophic activities following expression in Xenopus oocytes. In this report, we describe the successful application of the method to tract rat ciliary neurotrophic factor (CNTF) activity from mR
