✦ Synopsis
It is demonstrated that the use of heavy isotopic differences in quartic distortion constant data contributes to a significant improvement in the definition of the empirically determined harmonic potential function of a molecule, provided the data are determined with sufficient precision. Formaldehyde is used as a test case.
