✦ Synopsis
ccss in heatstroke patients was performed. Twenty patients with heatstroke, each with a rectal temperature less than 41.9 C, were randomly assigned to a dantrolene group (eight) or a control group (12). Patients in both groups were cooled by the same methods. Mean cooling time in the dantrolene group was 49.7 +-4.4 minutes, and in the control group was 69.2 +_ 4.8 minutes (P < .01). Although cooling time was significantly shorter in the dantrolene group, there was no difference in the recovery of both groups. All patients survived and left the hospital after two to three days. There was no difference between the two groups in the incidence of neurologic sequelae.
