✦ Synopsis

An improved organometallic route to passivated, high-quality crystalline nanodispersed semiconductors has been developed. Thermolysis of the 1: 1 triethylamine adduct of dimethylcadmium and a chalcogenide source can be used to grow 3 nm diameter II-VI quantum dots capped with trioctylphosphine oxide. Samples have been characterised by absorption spectroscopy, luminescence spectroscopy and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy. *
