✦ Synopsis
Abstract
Alternative resources such as animal fats, used cooking oils and side streams from oil refining can be used for the production of biodiesel. The quality of the biodiesel is largely dependent upon the quality and properties of the feedstock. A number of technologies involving pretreatment of the feedstock, post treatment of the biodiesel and new production processes have been developed in order to meet the biodiesel standards.

Utilization of municipal residues as energy resources is discussed. Municipal residues are divided into dry biomass and wet biomass from the viewpoint of energy utilization, and the separation of food garbage (wet biomass) from combustible waste (dry biomass) is proposed.
