Preparation of this initial report on the ecological conditions of the LMEs in the Regional Seas has been a collaborative effort. The GEF had tasked the Global International Waters Assessment (GIWA) to identify the ecological conditions of the GEF-eligible LMEs, thereby allowing, on the basis of these assessments, the GEF to prioritize the activities or areas needing more financial, scientific and technical support. The reports on the ecological condition for 34 LMEs, for which bordering countries are eligible for GEF financial support, were prepared by Dr. Sherry Heileman, marine and fisheries biologist, Paris, France. Report/ 2009 y/ pages 872/ fig.
