Summoned by a vampire to Las Vegas, Ludo Carstairs and Michael Garris are taken to see the aged widow of a long ago horror author. But this woman - who was born over a hundred years ago - is still stunningly attractive and youthful.

She tells them she has a mission for them; it's her wish that they destroy her husband.

However, her husband died in the 1950s. He is gone and - apart from those who deal in the most shadowy corners of the esoteric - he is largely forgotten. Except, in the overgrown corner of a churchyard in an out-of-the-way village in England, there was a grave which bore his name. Allegedly there was nothing buried within. But from under its soil, something has dug its way to the surface.

Following a trail from America to Africa and then to a remote island off the coast of Wales, these two agents of the supernatural attempt to track this uncanny being and stop whatever it is he's doing.

As away from prying eyes, this creature has been conducting experiments which bend reality.
