✦ Synopsis

EDXA was used to evaluate the reactions at the glass surface as well as the integration of the glass in the bone. In-depth compositional profiles of the glass surface provide information on the rates and types of reactions occurring within the glass. By comparing the SEM/EDXA results with the measured strengths of the bone-glass interface, it was established that in the SEM it is possible to distinguish between physical contact and chemical bonding to bone.
