A Bi single crystal prepared from Giredmet 'experimental' brand bismuth in the way described, had a relaxation time of about 2ns a for light electrons (m* = 0-009 m0) at 0.35 K and frequency 10.22 GHz, and for heavy electrons (m* = 0"012 mo) and holes, a relaxation time of ~4 to 5 ns. These values are 5-10 times greater than the corresponding relaxation times for specimens grown from the same starting material using the method of Sharvin and Gantmakher, 1 and are an order of magnitude greater than for specimens cut from large single crystals. 4,
