✦ Synopsis

THIS review includes 500 cases of acute hiematogenous osteomyelitis admitted to the London Hospital during the years 1919-37 inclusive. All the bones of the skeleton are included except those of the skull, vertebrie, and phalanges.

Incidence.-Acute osteomyelitis is a diminishing disease in the East End of London. Between the years 1919 and 1928 344 cases were admitted, whereas from 1929 to 1937 there were only 156 admissions. Table I shows in detail the numbers occurring in each decade, together with the mortality. Age 0-g * Based on a Hunterian Lecture delivered at the Royal College of Surgeons on January 26, ~~
