✦ Synopsis

The temperature behavior of magnetic, thermal and transport properties of ferromagnetic transition metals is shown to be mainly determined by the electron spin density fluctuations. The effect of the fluctuation dynamics on magnetism and heat capacity of iron is considered. The fluctuation theory of resistivity and ferromagnetic Hall effect is developed. The influence of thermal lattice vibrations on magnetism is evaluated. A description of the low-energy electron excitations with the help of a thermodynamic ensemble of the spin spiral configurations is proposed. In such approach the magnetic characteristics, the form of the photoemission spectra and the short range magnetic order above the Curie temperature T c are found simultaneously.

We use inelastic neutron scattering from polycrystalhne Y2BaNiOs and Y2BaNio.9sZno.0405 specimens to demonstrate that the spin fluctuations in this compound are one-dimensional. In addition they are gapped, in accord with the S=I nature of the Ni 2+ and the Haidane conjecture. The gap remains well d
