✦ Synopsis
Expressions are derived, using the classical interacting-dipole model, for the three-body contribution to the polarizability of a triplet of inert gas atoms in arbitrary configuration. Comparison is made to ab initio polarizability calculations by Perez, Clarke and Hmchliffe for a He, cluster in linear and isosceles-triangular configurations. Significant discrepancies are found, even at large separations between the atoms.
