โฆ Synopsis
THE THREE AGES OF WOMAN
This painting, "The Three Ages of Woman" by Gustav Klimt, is a powerful image of a beautiful young woman and child juxtaposed with an older woman. The young woman appears dreamy and content as she cradles the child in her arms; whereas the expression of the older woman is hidden from our view. We purposefully chose this image because it reflects women in a trilogy of phases spanning the life cycle-child, woman, and elder-and speaks to the ACNM mission to be "With Women for a Lifetime." We also chose the picture because its images are open to many layers of meaning and interpretation. Although we can make assumptions about the images, in truth, the stories of these women are unknown to us, just as the stories of all women are unknown until they are heard. It is our hope that the articles in this issue will guide clinicians in helping women voice their stories and find the strength and resources they need in their lives.
