Ahstraet-Adsorption from binary solutions of methanol in benzene has been studied on a few samples of sugar charcoal and a PVC charcoal associated with varying amounts of combined oxygen. The presence of associated oxygen enhances the preference for methanol. The thickness of the adsorbed layer is m

and A. Turner (Lancashire Tar Distillers Limited, Cadishead, Manchester, U.K.). Nitrogen adsorption data at 77Β°K and carbon dioxide adsorption at 195*K on various coal and pitch solvent extract resin fractions is considered. The data is treated so that the monolayer capacity, the micropore volume, and equivalent measurements of adsorptive capacity can be obtained by the application of fundamentally diverse adsorption theories. The results demonstrate the applicability of the various theories.

The thermodynamics of ideal dilute solutions is applied toward establishing a method for predicting multi-solute adsorption using only data for single-solute adsorption from dilute liquid solution. The method is similar to that proposed by Myers and Prausnitz for adsorption of gas mixtures. Experim
