โœฆ Synopsis

The TeacherslPractitioners Corner

New journals have no traditions. This affords the opportunity to design this section of the journal innovatively. As editor of the 'Forecasting in a Nutshell' section, I would like to accomplish three objectives : I . Provide a forum for communications from instructors. These communications should not be limited to academic presentations, but extended to any situation where the principles and substance of forecasting are communicated (e.g., seminars conducted for other teachers, industry seminars, workshops, etc.). By encouraging individuals to discuss instructional successes and failures in various contexts I hope that forecasting instructors will be able to refine their presentations.

  1. Provide a forum for communications from practitioners. We all know that forecasting is easier said than done. In coping with the considerable difficulties of developing and using forecasts practitioners often develop numerous 'tricks of the trade'. These ingenious heuristics often are not publicized and the benefit of this specialized expertise is lost to many. Therefore, I hope that practitioners will open up their bag of tricks so that we can all share and benefit from their specialized knowledge.

  2. Enable reflective communications. I hope to invite 'in my opinion' pieces from the eminent individuals involved in forecasting. These reflective communications often provide most enjoyable reading in these technical areas. I hope we can include such solicited contributions regularly.

These are my thoughts on the organization of this section. I hope that those interested will drop me a note regarding their ideas, suggestions, etc. In this way we can all participate in the design and modification of this section.

All submissions. except for those solicited, will be referred in accordance with the rules established by the Journal.

Finally, if you would like to review for this section please drop me a note with some indication of your area of interest.
