Laurencin' (A) and related compounds are a group of naturally occurring halogen0 compounds with (a) medium-sized cyclic ether ring(s) as well as an enyne unit, and the structure and configuration have been well established. 3 We describe herein the conversion of cis-2-ethyl-8-formyl-7,8-dihydro-2H_oxoc)one 3-ethylene acetall (2) into (+)-laurencin (1). Since compound 2 has recently been prepared, 4 the present work constitutes the first synthesis of.a representative member of the group.
