The potentially diatropic ("aromatic") bis-cyclohexene ennelated bisdehydrothia[171annulenes 1 and g, as well as the potentially paratropic ("antiaromatic") sulphones 1 and 4, have been described previously.2'3 Rather surprisingly, only the "all-trens" sulphide J_ appeared to be diatropic, whereas only the di-c& sulphone 3 was paratropic.
