## Abstract The synthesis, liquid‐crystal transition temperatures, and some physical properties of a variety of substituted phenyl ethers, most of which incorporate a lateral substituent, are reported. Many of the liquid crystals described exhibit nematic phases with negative dielectric anisotropy
