✦ Synopsis
In the course of recent studies on of the essential oil Geranium Bourbon in the composition the Research -Laboratory of Givaudan, two unknown tricyclic hydrocarbons (1) Cl5H24 have been isolated. The first one (I; diO 0,8948, ng21.4896, [a] go -92,12') showed infrared absorption bands at 888,1662 and 3080 cm-l (= CH2) and a doublet at 1376 and 1388 cm -1 (-cH/CH~/~). The p.m.r. spectrum (~-60) confirmed the presence of an exomethylene group (5.3~ , 2H, a broadened signal with fine structure due to allylic splitting by a-protons), ?C-CH3 (8.9z , 3H, sharp singlet) and -CE/CH3/2 group (6H, an asymmetric * Some p.m.r. spectra were recorded on a Varian spectrometer during the summer visit of Z.
