β¦ Synopsis
A thermostatistical model of formation of vitreous B203 is presented in this article. It is based on the description of agglomeration of B03 clusters and on the construction of the partition function related to the space of all possible pathways leading to a set of agglomerates. With one fitted parameter which is the boroxol formation energy of 5.3 4-0.7 kcal.rno1-1, the model predicts the usual shape of the heat-capacity curve, as well as the fraction of boroxol rings of 84%, in very good agreement with experimental data.
