โœฆ Synopsis

The structure of the semicoherent interface between gram boundary nucleated JI,,C!, and the related austenite gram has been studied in a 90 '$~Cr-~5ยฐ0Si-0.05~oC stainless steel. Transmission electron microscope observations of the direction of Moire fringes, as a fimction of the operative reflection, have shown that for some particles there is a 0.6" twist deviation from the previously reported exact cube/cube orientation relationship. In contrast, other particles have no twist component.

Bright field kinematical imaging conditions have revealed networks of interfacial defects which have been interpreted as dis. locations with a/3 (111) Burgers vectors. The spacing and crystallographic directions of these dislocations account well for the precipitate/matrix relationship in both the cube/cube precipitates ancl those with a twist component.
