Abstract
The morphology and ultrastructure of the intraβorbital portion of the optic nerve of Eugerres plumieri is described. Attention is drawn to the ribbonβlike form of the nerve and to the presence of nonβmyelinated axons, the majority of which are grouped into a tract at one edge of the ribbon. Fibrous astrocytes and oligodendrocytes are both present and clearly distinguishable. A third type of glial cell which shows evidence of phagocytic activity is also present. It is almost identical in ultrastructure with the multipotential glial cell described by Vaughn and Peters ('68).
