โฆ Synopsis
The nervous system of Arioiz ater consists of a complex central circuniesophageal nerve ring, thc two buccal ganglia, the digitated ganglia in t h e optic tentacles and thc radiating nerves. The ncrve ring is most conveniently divided into three large gailglioii masses. The supra-esophageal ganglion mass is made up of the two cerebral ganglia, each divisible into pro-, nieso-a n d meta-cerebrum, connected by the inter-cerebral commissure. T h e pleuro~parieto-visceral ganglion mass consists of the three ganglion groiips suggcsted by its namc. The pedal ganglion mass is the most ventral of thc thrcc inasses a n d consists of the two large pedal ganglia. The distribution of the cell groups, the sizes or the cells in the different groups and the location of the interganglionic connections arc described for the three ganglion masses a n d also for the buccal and digitated optic ganglia. A brief description of the production of paraldehyde-fuchsiri positivc iicurosccretion i n the nerve cells arid also a summary of histochemical tests carricd out on the cytoplasmic inclusions of the ncurons are given.
