The determination of aldehydic compounds was achieved by gas chromatographic/mass spectrometric analysis of derived thioacetals. These were produced, together with artifacts, in a one-step reaction when plasmalogens were treated with ethane-1,2-dithiol and BF, . The artifacts were recognized to be 2
