The crystal structures of the mixed valence compound Bi (IIII) 3 Bi (V) O 7 (1) and isotypic Bi (III) 3 Sb (V) O 7 (2) were determined ab initio from powder di4raction data. At room temperature, both structures crystallize in space group P1 (Z β«Ψβ¬ 2) with a β«Ψβ¬ 6.7253( 2), b β«Ψβ¬ 6.9950(2), c β«Ψβ¬ 7.7
Single crystals of Sm 0.97 TiO 3 have been prepared and their magnetic properties have been investigated. Dc magnetic susceptibility measurements indicate paramagnetic Curie-Weiss behavior above 100 K whereas two magnetic transitions are observed at T N &52 K and T N &40 K. Similar observations for
