✦ Synopsis

A formula is derived for the stress intensity factor at the rim of a penny-shaped crack in an infinite solid in which there is an axisymmetric distributing of body forces acting in a direction normal to the original crack surfaces. An expression for the surface displacement of the crack is also given. The use of these formulae is illustrated by a consideration of the special case m which the solid is deformed by the action of two point forces situated symmetrically with respect to the crack.
