✦ Synopsis
In this work the welded seam between two plates is considered when an in-plane load is transmitted from one to the other. The shear stress distribution along the seam is studied in both cases, when the seam is open and when the seam is closed, and by two procedures, applying the traditional analysis and by means of finite element methods. This allows one to derive some interesting conclusions with respect to the convenience of closing the seam and with respect to the traditional calculation method.
