โœฆ Synopsis

The time-of-flight (TOF) technique for mobility measurements in the condensed phase has been applied to solutions of CsO in n-hexane. The C6u radical anion has a mobility of 5.6x 10e4 cm'V_' s-', and a Stokes radius of 5.0 A, which agrees remarkably well with the van der Waals radius of the Cso molecule (5.0 A) obtained by electron and X-ray diffraction. The success of the Stokes law, presumably aided by the quasi-spherical nature of C6,,, suggests TOF experiments using C, for the determination of the "Stokes" viscosities of other liquids.
