โฆ Synopsis
Within the local approximation to spin density functional theory (LSDA), we have calculated the fully -interacting static spin susceptibility of UPts and CeAls by performing self -consistent spin -polarized LMTO -ASA band structure calculations in an applied magnetic field. By investigating supercell configurations, we have evaluated the susceptibility as a function of wavevector along the c-axis of the hexagonal Brillouin zone. Although we do find considerable enhancement as compared with the single -particle susceptibility evaluated from the density of states for all values of q considered (q = 0, E, % and ?I,, we find that the experimental bulk susceptibility is still substantially larger that our calculations predict, indicating that both many -body effects beyond the LSDA and -_
orbital effects are important in these systems.
