✦ Synopsis

Abstract

Previous work by the authors showed that an acidity developed in hay which had undergone spontaneous combustion. Further examination of such hay indicated that the acidity was composed mainly of non‐volatile acids; this fraction contained lactic, malic, and succinic acids, while acotic and formic acids were present in the volatile acidity. Methods of analysis are given.
